Privacy policy · 26 July 2026
Privacy, plainly.
Consensus uses the information needed to run the service, protect it and complete the actions you request. We do not sell personal information or run behavioural advertising.
Who controls it
Consensus is the controller of the personal information described here. Questions and rights requests can be sent to privacy@consensus.solar.
What we collect
- Account data: email address, username, display name, avatar and authentication identifiers.
- Activity and content: markets, positions, comments, images, follows, likes, contest votes, sharing choices and charity pledges.
- Transaction data: Credit packs, amount, currency and Stripe references. Consensus does not receive full card details.
- Technical data: session cookies, IP address, device and request information, security events and diagnostic logs.
Why we use it
We process data to provide your account and requested services (contract); secure, maintain and improve Consensus and prevent abuse (legitimate interests); process payments, records and lawful requests (contract or legal obligation); and send optional communications where you consent. You may object where we rely on legitimate interests.
If you use “Improve with AI”, the question you submit is sent to our AI provider to return a suggested rewrite. Do not include sensitive or identifying information. AI does not resolve markets or make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.
What is public
Your username, profile, public markets, comments and related activity can be seen by others and may be shared outside Consensus. Private markets are accessible to people with their link. Feed privacy controls limit selected activity but do not erase the underlying market record.
Who receives it
We use providers for hosting and databases (Vercel and Supabase), authentication (including GitHub if you choose it), payments (Stripe), transactional email (Resend), and optional AI assistance. They process data under their own terms and our instructions where applicable. We may also disclose data when required by law, to protect users or the service, or in a business reorganisation.
Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where required, we use an adequacy decision or approved contractual safeguards.
Cookies
Consensus uses necessary cookies to sign you in, maintain your session and protect the service. We do not currently use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How long
Account and market records are kept while needed to provide Consensus and preserve settlement integrity. Payment, tax and dispute records are kept for the period required by law. Security logs, rate-limit records and backups are deleted or anonymised when no longer needed. Deletion requests may leave anonymised, legally required or fraud-prevention records.
Your choices
Depending on the law that applies, you may ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or export your information, or object to its use. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. Email privacy@consensus.solar. We may need to verify your identity.
You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. Please contact us first if you are comfortable doing so.
Children & changes
Consensus is for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect children's data; contact us if you believe a child has used the service. We will post material policy changes here and, where appropriate, notify account holders.
